Until now, it wasn't possible to require ID verification as part of a draft order, where you share a link with the customer from a POS tile or from the Shopify Admin. However, that's changed.

ID verification in draft orders

Now, within Shopify, Real ID's verification app block is compatible with both online checkout and draft order checkouts.

This means that regardless of whether the customer starts their checkout from a POS draft order, online draft order, or plain online checkout, they have the same consistent ID verification experience across all channels.

Why verify during checkout?

Merchants selling high-ticket items like mattresses, furniture, or jewelry often experience sophisticated or first-party chargeback fraud. This is the nature of high-end retail, especially online.

After-checkout verification is more conversion-friendly, allowing you to verify only the highest-risk orders. However, you may want verification on all orders, especially when customers expect some KYC requirement as part of their purchase. During checkout, ID verification helps you meet necessary compliance or anti-fraud prevention needs without adding follow-ups or fulfillment complexity for your staff.

Getting started
